Recorded originUnited States
ClassBrass-era passenger or light commercial automobile; experimental steam car

Byron V. Covert's pre-production steam project. Georgano-derived references describe a light twin-cylinder steam runabout in a 1901 Covert 'range', while the Kimes-derived chronology says Covert developed a steam car and organized to manufacture it in 1902 but abandoned the plan before series production. The Royal Automobile Club more generally says he began by building a steam car. With no contemporary offer or delivery recovered, this row accounts for the physical-development claim without treating the vehicle as a retail model or extending documented Covert production backward from 1902.

This record contains useful sourced evidence, but it does not yet meet the reference-ready standard. Still needed: attributed imagery. Fields we cannot source stay empty rather than guessed.

Research notes

No period advertisement, customer delivery, serial ledger or surviving series example proves production; the number of complete experimental cars is unknown.
