Baltijas Džips

Entrepreneur Felix Tontegode formed a Latvian-Russian-American joint venture in 1995 under the Baltijas Džips name, initially operating at Alūksne before moving to Riga. A Saint Petersburg designer developed its single off-road vehicle, variously documented as BD-1322 or Tantor BD-3122. The first vehicle was presented in 1997. A twelve-person workforce was expected to complete one vehicle per day and approximately 200 annually, offering short- and long-wheelbase plastic bodies with gasoline or Iveco diesel power. Actual output reached only about ten vehicles, used mainly in agricultural and municipal roles, because the costly low-volume design could not compete with established Western 4x4s. Sources place the original company's end in 1997 while Latvian history records a rename to BD Tehnoloģijas and Russian sources report series manufacture beginning in March 1998; the catalog therefore carries 1998 as the terminal production evidence without pretending the corporate transition is fully settled.
