Constructor Gian Paolo Volpini joined engine specialist Egidio Arzani in 1954 to enter Formula One. They acquired the 1950 Scuderia Milano-Maserati chassis, retuned its Maserati-Speluzzi 2.5-litre four and commissioned new bodywork from Carrozzeria Colli. The Special appeared at Pau in 1955, where Mario Alborghetti died in a crash, and Luigi Piotti later qualified it for the Italian Grand Prix but could not start after engine failure. The partnership then left Formula One. Volpini resumed independently in 1958 with Formula Junior and Formula Three cars, which are not Arzani-Volpini models.
