Hans Trippel designed the Amphicar Model 770 as a friendly civilian successor in spirit to wartime amphibious vehicles. Quandt Group companies built it at Lübeck and Berlin-Borsigwalde from late 1960, using a sealed steel cabriolet body, rear-mounted Triumph engine, four-speed road transmission and selectable twin propellers. The 770 name advertised roughly 7 knots on water and 70 mph on land. Physical production wound down through 1965, but unsold cars were titled and marketed through 1968. Exactly 3,878 were built, most exported to the United States and only 97 in right-hand-drive form.
