The Lisbon workshop Auto-Zagaia began automobile production in 1988 using Zagaia as the vehicle badge. Its sole model recreated the appearance of the 1955 Porsche 356 Speedster with an in-house fiberglass body fitted to Volkswagen Beetle chassis and mechanical components. Buyers could obtain a completed vehicle or a kit, and sales extended beyond Portugal. Sources agree that automobile manufacture ended sometime during the 1990s but do not establish a precise last year, so 1999 is retained as an approximate outer bound rather than a claimed exact closure date.
