Wendax was founded in Hamburg in 1949 as a road-vehicle subsidiary of Draisinenbau Dr. Alpers, which had made railway inspection vehicles and commercial equipment. It built the Aero WS 700 roadster and the WS 750 sedan and taxi in the immediate postwar market, but insufficient testing, quality problems and delayed deliveries led to insolvency in 1951. The catalog keeps Wendax separate from Dr. Alpers and from other German microcar makers of the period.
