Vespa (Douglas) identifies the British Vespa program operated by Douglas of Bristol under agreement with Piaggio from 1950. The early machines were substantially manufactured and assembled in Britain rather than being ordinary imported Italian Vespas, while the later program used increasing quantities of imported parts. Surviving histories differ on the endpoint because local manufacture ended before all British assembly and distribution activity ceased; one account places the end of production in 1957, while club histories describe British Vespa production and assembly continuing into the mid-1960s. The catalog keeps the Douglas identity separate from Piaggio's Italian Vespa marque and from later British importers, and it does not turn the 125 PRIMA and 90 STANDARD labels into evidence for a complete Douglas model chronology or a separate Douglas-designed scooter.
