Think began in Norway in 1991 as Pivco, the Personal Independent Vehicle Company, developing compact electric vehicles such as the City Bee. Ford acquired a majority stake in 1999 and the business adopted the Think name; the Think City entered series production through Norwegian and Finnish manufacturing partners, but repeated financial crises culminated in bankruptcy in 2011. The catalog keeps Think distinct from Ford's temporary ownership and from the later Think-branded prototypes and fleet programs.
