Solon AB was founded in Varberg in 1991 after its founders had developed electric and hybrid prototypes in Karlstad since 1988. The company designed the two-seat SX 2, the three-seat Solon 2000 and a later four-seat hybrid concept, but produced only a few examples and stopped production in 1995. The catalog treats Solon as a Swedish experimental vehicle maker and keeps it separate from the unrelated German solar company Solon SE.
