Shanghai Maple Guorun Automobile was founded in 2000 and began producing small passenger cars under the Maple name in Shanghai. Geely acquired a controlling interest and used the company for models derived from its early platforms, including the Marindo and Hisoon. The original Shanghai Maple marque was phased out around 2010 as its range was folded into Geely's Englon brand.
