Sao was not an independent automaker but the United Kingdom export badge for a South African-built Mazda 323. Samcor assembled the car in South Africa, while Automotive Holdings, a Mazda Cars subsidiary, imported it to Britain as the Sao Penza from 1991 to 1993. The low-volume program was withdrawn after weak sales; the catalog preserves Sao as the exact export identity and does not attribute Samcor or Mazda's broader histories to it.
