Anton Rumpler and Leopoldine Ringer founded an automobile and agricultural-machinery trading firm in Vienna in 1919. After Rumpler became sole owner in 1921, he briefly manufactured the 3/10 PS cyclecar under the Ru-An name—an abbreviation of Rumpler Anton. Its 998 cc twin powered a two-seat chassis that achieved class wins at the Riederberg and Cobenzl hill climbs in July 1921. Vehicle production ended in 1922, although the underlying trading company survived until 1941. Ru-An is intentionally separated from Edmund Rumpler's unrelated German Tropfenwagen.
