Renault's modern heavy-truck business was organized as Renault Véhicules Industriels in 1978 through the merger of Berliet and Saviem. It absorbed Mack Trucks and adopted the Renault Trucks name in 2002. Volvo Group acquired the operation in 2001, and Renault Trucks has continued to produce distribution, construction, long-haul and electric commercial vehicles.
