Panhard et Levassor

Panhard et Levassor became an automobile manufacturing concern in Paris in 1887 after René Panhard and Émile Levassor developed petrol cars from the company's earlier machinery business. The marque pioneered front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layouts and produced influential touring, luxury and racing cars before the postwar Dyna era. Citroën acquired control in the 1960s and the Panhard passenger-car identity ended in 1967, while the wider industrial business continued; the catalog keeps Panhard et Levassor distinct from Citroën and from the later Panhard defense-vehicle company.
