Pagani's second road car answered the Zonda with active aerodynamics and a hand-built Mercedes-AMG V12.

The Pagani Huayra followed the Zonda as the second road car from Horacio Pagani's Modena atelier, and took its name from Huayra-tata, a wind deity of Andean Aymara mythology. A defining engineering feature was active aerodynamics: four independently operated flaps, one at each corner, that pivot under braking and cornering to shift downforce and trim the car's attitude. The body wraps a carbon-fibre monocoque, and the upward-swinging gullwing doors and exposed mechanical detailing signalled Pagani's habit of treating structure as something to be seen rather than hidden.

Motive power comes from a Mercedes-AMG twin-turbocharged V12, built to Pagani's specification and mounted amidships. In the base coupe it is rated at 730 hp. Pagani quotes a dry weight of 1350 kg, and the company began series production in 2012, assembling the cars in small annual batches at its factory near Modena rather than on any conventional line.

Pagani capped the Huayra coupe at 100 examples. Once that run was complete, the marque moved through a sequence of roadster, track-focused, and commemorative variants that carried the Huayra name through 2025. With production limited and each chassis hand-finished, the Huayra reinforced Pagani's standing as a builder whose cars are judged as much on craftsmanship as on outright speed.

Background

The Pagani Huayra is a mid-engine sports car produced by Italian sports car manufacturer Pagani, superseding the company's previous offering, the Zonda. It is named after Wayra Tata, the Quechua wind god. The Huayra was named "The Hypercar of the Year 2012" by Top Gear magazine. On 11 February 2015 it was reported that the Pagani Huayra had been sold out. The Huayra was limited to just 100 units as part of Pagani's agreement with engine supplier Mercedes-AMG.
