Nesselsdorfer Wagenbau-Fabriks-Gesellschaft developed from Ignaz Schustala's carriage works founded in Nesselsdorf in 1850. It built the Präsident in 1897, among the first factory-produced automobiles in Central Europe, and soon added trucks and rail vehicles. After the First World War and the creation of Czechoslovakia, its vehicle operations adopted the Tatra name, which became the successor marque.
