Marmon automobiles were built in Indianapolis by Nordyke and Marmon & Company from 1902, with the dedicated Marmon Motor Car Company formed in 1926. Howard Marmon's engineering produced innovative aluminum-bodied and air-cooled cars, while Ray Harroun's Marmon Wasp won the first Indianapolis 500 in 1911. The company later pursued large luxury cars, culminating in the V16 Marmon Sixteen, but the Depression forced the automobile business into receivership and production ended in 1933. The catalog keeps Marmon separate from the post-1936 Marmon-Herrington truck and axle company and from unrelated modern brands.
