Marcos Cars was founded in North Wales in 1959 by racing driver Jem Marsh and aeronautical engineer Frank Costin. The marque became known for lightweight wood-and-composite sports cars, beginning with the Marcos GT and later producing the Mini Marcos, Mantula, Mantis, Mantara, LM and TSO families in small numbers. The original company experienced financial breaks and later revivals; the TSO GT appeared in the 2000s, and the Marcos name and archive were acquired again by new owners in 2010. The catalog treats Marcos as a distinct British sports-car identity rather than merging the road cars with Marcos racing programs or Cosworth.
