Louis Renault built his first voiturette in 1898 and began selling the design after its successful demonstration; the Renault brothers then organized the Renault company in 1899. The catalog's Louis Renault Automobile Company label is therefore treated as a historical grouping for Louis Renault's earliest engineering work, not as a separate long-lived company competing with Renault. The related Renault AX was produced from 1908 to 1914 and was already a Renault product. The catalog keeps this precursor identity distinct from the later Société Renault Frères and from the modern Renault Group.
