Former Salmson commercial director and racing driver André Lombard returned to manufacturing with prototype AL1 and two streamlined AL2 racers at Montlhéry in 1927. The production AL3 used a 1,083 cc twin-overhead-camshaft four, optionally supercharged, and appeared in road and competition bodies including the Grand Air Sport. AL3s raced at Le Mans, the Mille Miglia and abroad, winning their class in the 1929 Australian Grand Prix. Roughly 94 Lombards were recorded, almost all AL3s; experimental AL4 and AL5 remained one-offs before BNC acquired stock when the company failed in 1929.
