Joss Developments began in Australia in 1998 when designer Matthew Thomas started building a V8 supercar project in his spare time. The first prototype, the JT1, was shown at the 2004 Melbourne Motor Show and became known as an ambitious Australian supercar program; a more production-oriented mid-engined JP1 was later planned for a small run. The proposed 2013 production program never materialized after investment ended in 2014, and the car remained a prototype and development project. The catalog records Joss separately from later Australian supercar brands and does not present the JP1 as a series-produced model.
