Giannini was founded in Rome in 1920 by brothers Attilio and Domenico Giannini. The workshop tuned engines and Fiat-based cars, built its own small engines after the Second World War and became a major rival to Abarth in modified Fiat 500 competition and road cars. A family split in 1961 created separate Giannini and Costruzioni Meccaniche Giannini paths; the latter closed in 1971, while Giannini Automobili continued with Fiat conversions, special vehicles and coachbuilding. The catalog keeps Giannini's tuned and bodyworked Fiat derivatives under the Giannini identity rather than treating them as independent Fiat models.
