FOMM Corporation was established in Japan in February 2013 by engineer Hideo Tsurumaki, whose earlier work included Toyota's COMS ultra-small EV. The name means First One Mile Mobility and reflects the company's focus on short urban trips and Southeast Asian markets. FOMM announced a four-seat compact electric vehicle in 2014 and began volume production of the FOMM ONE in 2019, with sales first centered on Thailand and later Japan. The catalog treats FOMM as a current small-EV developer and keeps the ONE separate from COMS and other four-seat microcars.
