Eugène Mauve established the Defrance brothers' vehicle venture at Vierzon in 1919 and used the Elfe badge on unconventional very light cars. An elegant single-seat Salon prototype led to road monocars and tandem bicars with front V-twins and belt drive. Competition versions placed an 1,100 cc Anzani V-twin behind tandem riders and used chain drive, while period specifications also record four-cylinder developments around one litre. Elfe competed from 1920 to 1922 and won its class at Nice in 1921. Mauve's later, more conventional cars belong to the separate Mauve badge rather than extending Elfe indefinitely.
