Dongfeng traces its automotive operations to the Second Automobile Works established in 1969 in Hubei. It developed from a state truck producer into one of China's major vehicle groups, manufacturing commercial vehicles and passenger cars under Dongfeng-branded ranges while also operating numerous joint ventures. The marque has since expanded into electric and export-market vehicles alongside group sub-brands.
