DFSK began in 2003 as the market name of Dongfeng Sokon, a joint venture between Dongfeng Motor and Sokon Group. The marque first concentrated on compact vans and light commercial vehicles before expanding into crossovers and SUVs, including the 580 and Fengon-related products. Sokon, now Seres Group, later took full ownership while DFSK continued as an export-oriented brand distinct from the corporate manufacturer.
