DC Design was founded by Indian designer Dilip Chhabria in 1993 as a design, customization and prototype business. Its work expanded from bespoke vehicles and show cars to the DC Avanti, a mid-engined sports coupé unveiled at the 2012 Auto Expo and produced in limited numbers in India from 2012 to 2020. The Avanti used a 2.0-litre turbocharged Renault engine and was marketed as an Indian-designed and built sports car; its limited-edition higher-output derivative remains a variant, not a separate marque. DC Design's later corporate and design activities are not treated as proof of uninterrupted Avanti production. The catalog keeps DC Design separate from Dilip Chhabria's later DC2 branding, from the Studebaker Avanti that supplied the name, and from unrelated Indian coachbuilders and tuning shops.
