Cornilleau

Automobiles Cornilleau was a French automobile manufacturer based in Asnières-sur-Seine that built cars from 1912 until 1914 under the Cornilleau name. It must be distinguished from Cornilleau & Sainte-Beuve, also known as C.S.B., an unrelated Paris company that produced larger four-cylinder automobiles from 1904 to 1909. The shared surname has caused confusion in retrospective lists, but standard marque references explicitly deny a connection; neither concern is treated as the other's predecessor, successor or abbreviated identity. Automobiles Cornilleau offered three mechanically distinct shaft-driven families. The smallest, rated 8/10 CV, used a 770 cc two-cylinder two-stroke engine—an unusual architecture among contemporary French passenger cars. The middle model had a 1,469 cc four-cylinder rated 10 CV. The largest used a 2,296 cc four-cylinder rated 12 CV. All are described with cardan or propeller-shaft drive. Accessible public sources do not preserve factory type numbers beyond these ratings, bore and stroke, valve layout for the four-strokes, measured output, cooling and ignition systems, gearbox ratios, wheelbase, suspension, brakes, steering, body catalog, seating, dimensions, weights, prices, performance, serial ranges, production quantities, export markets, competition history or authenticated survivors. The nominal CV values are historical model/rating identifiers and are not assumed to equal modern brake horsepower. Production ended in 1914, plausibly within the disruption surrounding the First World War, but no source establishes a precise closure cause and none is invented. Three catalog rows—8/10 CV, 10 CV and 12 CV—exhaust the complete defensible Cornilleau range. Cornilleau & Sainte-Beuve's 8, 14, 16, 18 and 20/30 CV cars, including the Straker-Squire-assembled derivative, remain a separate marque inventory for their own reconciliation rather than being folded into this history.
