Charles Montier et Cie was a French automotive business founded by Charles Montier after his work as a mechanic, racer and Ford agent. The company is often described as beginning in 1912 and later operated from the Paris region; it sold, modified and built low-volume vehicles under the Montier and Ford-Montier names rather than being a French branch that merely retailed untouched Fords. Montier altered Ford Model T and Model A chassis, bodywork and mechanical parts, including a special overhead-valve cylinder-head and competition preparation, and entered Ford-based Montier Specials at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1923, 1924 and 1925. The pre-company steam car built by Elie and Charles Montier in the 1890s is kept as family and engineering context, not backdated into Charles Montier et Cie production. References place the end of production around 1933 after more than fifty vehicles; the catalog keeps the CM-1 and Montier Special identities distinct from mass-produced Ford models and does not claim a larger output.
