Buffalo Electric Carriage Company began building battery automobiles in Buffalo, New York, in 1901. Its annual range evolved from a single Stanhope through Golf Brake, Victoria Stanhope, Touring and Tonneau bodies, then standardized as Models 1, 3 and 4 for 1905–1906. Surviving 1904 specifications show single- and twin-motor layouts from 2.5 to 10 combined hp and heavy carriage construction; the company promoted a 45-minute full charge. Babcock Electric Carriage Company acquired it in 1906. It was unrelated to the gasoline Auto-Bi concern, and its lineage precedes but is distinct from the 1912 Buffalo Electric Vehicle Company.
