Buckingham Engineering

Buckingham Engineering Company was a Coventry maker that grew out of the Chota cyclecar program. The earliest cars were sold as Chotas; from 1913–14 the Buckingham name covered a small cyclecar with a Buckingham-designed single-cylinder engine, while the larger pre-war V-twin program and the later Buckingham 10 extended the range. Production was suspended during the First World War. J. F. Buckingham returned with an air-cooled 1,096 cc V-twin light car in 1920, later adding a three-speed gearbox and shaft drive; Charlesworth supplied two-seat bodies, including the Palace coupé form. Alvis undertook some manufacture in 1922–23, but that contract does not turn Alvis into another Buckingham marque. The catalog retains Buckingham as a short-lived English maker, separate from Chota and from Alvis's own cars.
