BSHCoupé

The sole BSH model, conceived by François Benais and Max Saint-Hilaire and named from Benais plus Saint-Hilaire. A special-steel tubular backbone chassis incorporated a roll-over hoop and Renault 8 Gordini front crossmember; a one-piece reinforced-polyester passenger cell and separate fiberglass front/rear panels, doors and seats formed the body. Renault production suspension, engine, gearbox and running gear allowed damaged donor cars to supply parts, so engine choice, four- or five-speed gearbox, lamps and finish varied by customer and do not create separate BSH models. The rear-engine, rear-drive car could be bought complete or as a kit and each individually assembled example required approval by the French Mines authority. Racing entries with approximately 1,255 and 1,600 cc engines were configurations of the same Coupé. Issy Automobiles Plastiques built and marketed 56 BSH-badged cars before François Benais withdrew at the end of 1971; Marland then continued the physical design under its own marque, whose later output is not counted as BSH.
