American financier Oland J. Brooks founded Brooks Steam Motors Limited in Toronto in March 1923 from the remains and concepts of Detroit Steam Motors. A prototype appeared at the Toronto Exhibition before production moved to a former threshing-machine works in Stratford, Ontario. Although three extensive model lines were advertised, the company built only one automobile in quantity: a heavy five-seat sedan combining Model 2-like steam machinery with Model 3-like mass and a distinctive Meritas fabric body. About 180 cars were produced. Plans then shifted to Buffalo, New York, where experimental 29-passenger and 39-passenger V8 steam buses appeared in 1927 and 1929 but gained no production orders. The Stratford plant was auctioned in 1931; the American corporation lingered on paper until dissolution in 1936.
