The coupe that revived the 6 Series after a fourteen-year absence and carried BMW's early-2000s design language into a grand tourer.
BMW returned the 6 Series name to production in 2003 with the E63 coupe, followed by the E64 convertible. The new car arrived fourteen years after the original E24 generation ended, and it was presented first as the 645Ci: a long-distance grand tourer combining a V8 with the technology and structure of BMW's contemporary large-car range. Its shape made the era's flame-surfaced design language especially visible on a low two-door body.
The family broadened from the initial 645Ci to six-cylinder and later 650i versions, while the M6 placed BMW's high-revving V10 at the top of the range. Coupe and convertible production continued through 2010. The E63/E64 generation is therefore best read as a family rather than one specification: two body styles, several engines, and a span that re-established the 6 Series as BMW's large grand-touring line before the next generation arrived.
