George W. Benham organized Benham Manufacturing Company in early 1914 after buying the failed S & M Motor Car Company's Detroit plant and assets. The new concern retained the predecessor's basic car with detail changes and sold it as the Model 6-48. Its 48 hp Continental six, four-speed Brown-Lipe gearbox and 130-inch chassis supported roadster and five- or seven-passenger bodies. Production ended amid receivership proceedings in September; Puritan Manufacturing acquired the remaining parts that December. Published totals conflict between 19 and approximately 60 cars, but all agree that the 6-48 was Benham's only model.
