Bayer Brothers Carriage Works had built horse-carriage bodies in Leavenworth, Kansas, since 1857. Under manager Henry Bauer it briefly entered automobile manufacture in 1905, using the Bauer badge rather than the company's Bayer spelling. Charles Boyle designed a tiller-steered tricycle with a twin-cylinder engine beneath the seat. Exactly four were built and dispersed to a carnival concern, a Los Angeles buyer, Hease Motor Company in Kansas City, and Bauer himself. The experiment ended with that single model; Henry Ford unsuccessfully sought Bauer's retained example roughly twenty years later.
