Terry Sands left Sheldonhurst in 1985 and founded Alternative Vehicle Centre at Redditch, Worcestershire, marketing cars and kits under the AVC badge. California and Speedster continued Porsche 356-inspired designs, joined by a 550 Spyder replica. The Ford Cortina-based Mongoose evoked a late-1920s Model T racer, while a small 1985–1986 Apollo series converted Volkswagen Beetles into cabriolets. More than 500 AVC products were made across the range, including about fifty Mongoose cars. Production ended in 1990; Sands later resumed related work through Legend Motor Company in 1997.
