Nick Topliss founded AVA Cars at Frome in 1986 with assistance from Ian Hunter. Its sole K1 used a stainless-steel tubular frame, fiberglass two-seat roadster body and third-generation Ford Escort front-drive components, achieving a claimed drag coefficient of 0.295. Initial manufacture ended in 1987 or 1988, followed by a Bristol continuation under John Burton in 1990–1991 and several reported German assembly or distribution arrangements. About sixteen K1s were completed; the proposed four-wheel-drive version is not treated as a production derivative.
