Former racer Ray Caldwell incorporated Autodynamics at Marblehead, Massachusetts, in November 1963 and quickly became a leading American Formula Vee constructor. Successive D-1 and D-4 generations, Formula B, Formula Ford and Formula Super Vee Caldwell chassis created a substantial amateur-racing business, reaching about sixty cars annually by 1967. Road-oriented output included the Hustler kit sports car and more than twelve hundred Deserter buggies, while a Dodge contract produced three 1970 Trans-Am Challengers. Withdrawal of Detroit racing support contributed to Chapter 11 in 1971; although some chassis production dates extend into 1972, the company did not recover.
