Autocom Engineering began producing automobiles and kits at Combe Martin, Devon, in 1987 under the Autocom badge. Its only design was the Minibuggy, an open recreational two-seater whose molded fiberglass body sat on a dedicated spaceframe. Rather than copying the rear-engined Volkswagen formula used by most beach buggies, Autocom incorporated a Mini engine, transmission, front subframe and other running gear, giving the finished car a transverse front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. Approximately five kits or complete vehicles were supplied before production ended in 1994. No reliable evidence supports additional models, generations or a successor project. This short-lived British vehicle maker has no relationship to the Swedish Autocom diagnostics company established in 1991 or similarly named modern automotive-service businesses.
