Austro-FIAT

Austro-FIAT began in Vienna in 1907 as Fiat-Werke AG, Fiat's Austrian affiliate, and assembled Fiat vehicles before developing its own passenger cars, trucks and buses. Automobile assembly started at the Floridsdorf works in 1908, followed by a four-ton truck in 1911 and a broader locally developed commercial-vehicle program. During and after the First World War the company separated from direct Fiat control; it changed its corporate name to Österreichische Automobil-Fabrik, abbreviated ÖAF, in 1921, while the Austro-FIAT marque continued in use during the transition and expired as a standalone brand by 1925. Later ÖAF trucks, buses and special vehicles are related corporate successors, not evidence that the Austro-FIAT name remained an unchanged passenger-car marque. The catalog keeps the AFL label within this historical Austro-Fiat/ÖAF source continuum while preserving the brand's name and corporate boundary.
