ASL

ASL was the automobile-development arm created by Japanese automotive-parts retailer Autobacs after its 2001 acquisition of the Tommykaira sports-car business. Its catalog identity is the Autobacs Garaiya, a lightweight mid-engined coupé announced in the early 2000s and shown at the 2002 Tokyo Auto Salon. Autobacs planned limited production, with engineering and prototype work in Norwich, England, but development and sales were canceled before a regular series was established; only a small number of prototypes were completed. A Garaiya also raced under Autobacs Racing Team Aguri, but the competition cars and the Tommykaira ZZ donor lineage are not separate ASL road models. The catalog keeps ASL distinct from Autobacs retail operations and records it as a short-lived sports-car project rather than claiming a mass-production marque.
