Fahrzeugfabrik Ansbach was founded in 1906 primarily for commercial vehicles. Its only securely documented passenger car was the low-volume 1910–1913 4/14 PS Kautz or Kauz, whose production was constrained by truck demand. The company merged in 1917 with Karl Schmidt's Nuremberg vehicle and fire-equipment works, forming the enterprise later called FAUN. The Ansbach factory regained its name in 1926 and introduced the 600 kg Express light truck with a 592 cc Motosacoche twin. Bankruptcy ended regular manufacture in 1928, although administrators may have completed vehicles from inventory in 1929.
