Ankai traces its industrial roots to the Anhui state-owned Feihe repair and assembly factory founded in 1966. The modern badge emerged in 1994 when the Setra S215HD-derived HFF6120GD became China's first domestically built luxury coach with a fully integral body; the name joined the first characters of Anhui and Kässbohrer. Ankai deepened its Setra/Evobus relationship with November 2002 production of the S315HD-derived HFF6120K35 and later developed broad proprietary highway and urban ranges. Listed in Shenzhen since 1997 and now controlled by JAC Group, it builds 5.4–18 m buses using diesel, gas, hybrid, battery-electric and hydrogen platforms.
