H. W. Andrees, Automobil- und Motoren-Industrie began in Düsseldorf in 1923 with comparatively sophisticated oil-cooled four-stroke Bradshaw flat-twins built under licence. From 1925 it broadened into 350 and 500 cc Blackburne- and M.A.G.-engined singles plus motorcycle-powered delivery tricycles and four-wheel trucks. Heinz Kürten gave the badge prominence by winning the 650 cc sidecar race at the Nürburgring's opening meeting in 1927. A new Arnsberg works opened in 1928 to serve demand for licence- and tax-exempt 200 cc machines, but rapid expansion followed by the economic crisis forced bankruptcy in 1929.
