Société des Établissements Ampère began automobile production at Billancourt in 1906 and exhibited at the 1908 Paris motor show. Its sole documented 10/16 CV used a four-cylinder combustion engine, but an electric clutch provided speed variation without a dynamo or storage batteries—an unusual electromechanical transmission concept rather than an electric car. The radiator sat behind the engine, and available coachwork included a four-seat double phaeton. Manufacture ended in 1909. The year qualifier separates this pioneer from Renault Group's modern Ampere software and EV entity.
