Compagnia Generale Automobili obtained an Amilcar licence in 1925 to build the successful French cyclecars in Italy, avoiding import duties while exploiting favorable light-vehicle taxation. Production workshops were associated with Lecco and commercial offices with Milan and Rome. In 1927 investors transferred the licence to Società Industriale Lombardo Veneta Automobili at Verona, which continued Italian manufacture. Racing promoted the 1,075 cc CGS and its more competition-focused CGSS derivative. Competition from Fiat's 509 and the 1929 economic crisis ended the operation after a short but commercially and sporting-visible run.
