Adolf Altmann's Kraftfahrzeug-Werke at Brandenburg an der Havel produced one of Germany's few native steam cars from 1905. Its three-cylinder valve-timed engine followed aspects of the Gardner-Serpollet principle, while water condensation reduced consumption enough for an effective range near 125 miles per fill. Altmann's death prevented expansion beyond small-scale manufacture. The company subsequently explored electric automobiles before closing in 1907.
