German-born engineer Alberico Seiling left the MAS company he had founded and established a new Milan concern in January 1938. Initially called Seiling and briefly Sei, it adopted the Altea name in 1939. An opening 350 cc side-valve motorcycle was followed by the technically more ambitious 198 cc overhead-valve lightweight, offered with either rigid rear frame or a central-spring cantilever suspension. Its engine also powered a small commercial motofurgoncino introduced in 1940. Wartime conditions forced the Via Brioschi factory to close in 1941, ending Altea's complete four-vehicle-family range.
