Brothers Bryan and David Shepherd operated the Albany Motor Carriage Company at Christchurch, Dorset, from 1971. Their hand-built car evoked Edwardian motoring without reproducing a particular original marque, initially combining a tubular chassis, BMC A-series engine and Morris Minor suspension. Triumph SC engines replaced the BMC unit from 1974, a five-seat long-wheelbase option followed in 1976, and exports briefly reached the United States. Albany also constructed an AEC-style open bus on a Ford truck chassis. Production continued at low volume until the company closed in 1997.
